Approach

Farmer confidence in UK farm assurance has declined due to complexity and lack of input. To address this, NFU and AHDB commissioned a UK-wide review, engaging industry leaders, including SCI and Promar, to assess the system and identify solutions
to restore trust and
drive improvement.
A nine-month independent review gathered evidence across the food supply chain, identifying strengths in devolved schemes and the need for UK-wide reform. The commissioners proposed nine strategic recommendations, including reducing audits, using technology, improving governance, and
increasing collaboration.
The review called for streamlined audits, modernised assurance, and greater farmer influence. With SCI and Promar International, the Commissioners outlined 56 recommendations with clear timelines and accountability, paving the way for a more efficient,
farmer-focused system
that rebuilds trust.
